Businessmen Anil Wijewardena and Shan Wickremasinghe established the country's first TV station Independent Television Network which started broadcasting on 15 April 1979. During the constructions, a man died while working on a 45-foot tower. On 13 April 1979, the young monks of Gangarama came to recite Pirith and Sri Lanka's first television station was commenced at 6.30 pm with the name Independent Television Network (ITN). [6] ITN is the first ever terrestrial television channel to be telecast in Sri Lanka.
Silumina (Sinhala: සිළුමිණ) is a Sinhala language weekly newspaper in Sri Lanka. It is published by the Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited (Lake House), a government-owned corporation. The newspaper commenced publishing in March 30 1930, D. R. Wijewardena being its founder. [1] It currently has a circulation of 265,000. [2]
