At various times, it has organizationally been a bureau or a division of LAWA, depending on LAWA organizational structures; the "Bureau" designation is no longer used.
The airport is located in Burbank, and serves the heavily populated areas of northern Los Angeles County. It is the closest airport to the central and northeastern parts of L.A.
