The Lake of Sainte-Croix (French: Lac de Sainte-Croix, pronounced [lak də sɛ̃tkʁwa]) is a reservoir in Southern France that was formed by the construction, between 1971 and 1974 (when it was put into service), [1] of a reinforced-concrete arch dam, the Sainte-Croix Dam [].

Jean-Baptiste-Louis Franquelin's 1688 map recorded a "Fort St. Croix" on the upper reaches of the river. [13] [14] The name "Rivière de Sainte-Croix" was applied to the river sometime in 1688 or 1689, [12]: 28 and this more auspicious name supplanted Father Hennepin's earlier designation.

Sainte-Croix-du-Verdon (French pronunciation: [sɛ̃t kʁwa dy vɛʁdɔ̃], literally Sainte-Croix of Verdon; Provençal: Santa Crotz de Verdon) is a commune in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence department in southeastern France. Prior to 16 September 2005, the commune was known as Sainte-Croix-de-Verdon. [3]
