The Long Beach Freeway was approved as a non-chargeable Interstate in September 1983 by the FHWA, and on May 30, 1984, AASHTO approved the SR 7 designations to be renumbered to Interstate 710. SR 60 begins at the East Los Angeles Interchange near Downtown Los Angeles, designated as the Pomona Freeway.
