Mbarara Hospital is a public hospital, founded by the Uganda Ministry of Health, and general care in the hospital is free. It is affiliated with the medical school of the Mbarara University of Science and Technology, one of the four medical schools in Uganda. The hospital is staffed by medical students and residents.
The students at the school come from Uganda and other African countries, especially Kenya. [4] The school is licensed to teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Human Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy and Nursing. The other centres of excellence will be established at the University of Rwanda's College of Medicine and Health Sciences, the Uganda Cancer Institute and, in Tanzania, at Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences.
