Today there are almost 3,000 deacons in The Episcopal Church. Deacons are involved in a wide variety of work such as feeding the poor, ministering to homeless, and caring for children. This work is carried out in many settings – the community, hospitals, prisons, retirement communities, etc.
Through worship, fellowship, and study, the diocese has embarked on an intentional path of mission, service, and addressing poverty. Bishop Gutiérrez comes from a family dedicated to public service and he spent over two decades serving in government.

The 241st Convention of the Episcopal Diocese of Pennsylvania will begin on Friday, October 18, 2024 with Eucharist at The Philadelphia Episcopal Cathedral and continue there on Saturday, October 19. On Saturday, doors open at 8 a.m. with Morning Prayer beginning at 8:45 a.m.
