To make room for newer residence halls, the housing department began tearing down older residence halls and buildings. The Illini Orange, a mailroom, snack bar, and bus stop, and the Peabody and Gregory Drive dining halls were demolished in 2008 to make room for the new Student Dining and Residential Programs Building (SDRP), which opened in 2010.
