The basilica in Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré was initially a shrine to honour Saint Anne. On March 8, 1658, settler Étienne de Lessard donated two frontal acres from the west end of his property to the Catholic Church, so that a chapel could be built. This chapel eventually became the site of the modern-day basilica.
In 1997, Holy Family Church burnt down, and the Oratory used St Vincent's as their main church until the new Holy Family was finished in 2001. In 2022 the Toronto Oratory Web site reported ten priests, two lay brothers, and four brother in priestly formation, making it the largest English-speaking Oratory.
Construction began that year, using some materials from the Waubaushene church and others donated by lumber companies in Northern Ontario. Pews, stained glass windows, Stations of the Cross and an altar were donated by churches in London and Toronto. The interior, shaped like an overturned canoe, was designed and built by Ildège Bourrie.
St. John's continues to be the seat of the PNCC's Canadian diocese in name, but it continues to be occupied by the former members of the church. The PNCC parishioners worship in a nearby United church. In 2005, the conference "decided that the parish would be recognised as an Old Catholic parish of the Union of Utrecht."
