Topeka is also on U.S. Highway 24 (about 50 miles [80 km] east of Manhattan, Kansas) and U.S. Highway 40 (about 30 miles [48 km] west of Lawrence, Kansas). US 40 is coincident with I-70 west from Topeka.

The Topeka Service Area (mile 188) opened in May 2002. This service plaza features a gift shop and a 24-hour gas station and Love's convenience store. Previously, five restaurants (including Hardee's, Taco Bell, Pizza Hut and Dunkin Donuts) operated in the plaza, but all closed on April 14, 2023.
