Orion the Hunter was a 1980s rock band and offshoot of the popular band Boston.It featured former Boston members Barry Goudreau on guitars and Brad Delp on backing vocals, as well as future Boston lead vocalist Fran Cosmo.

This time, Fran Cosmo appeared as lead vocalist, while Delp provided backing vocals and co-wrote five of the album's songs. The album included the single "So You Ran". The band then added keyboardist and backing vocalist Brian Maes and toured in support of Aerosmith in 1984 but ultimately broke up in 1985.
Scholz contacted Fran Cosmo to complete the record. After Walk On was released in 1994 with Fran Cosmo on vocals, Delp and Boston reunited later that year for another major tour. Delp continued to record vocals on several albums and projects, including new tracks for Boston's 1997 Greatest Hits compilation and their 2002 release Corporate America .

After the success of their 1986 album Third Stage, the band began planning a follow-up and writing for Walk On, which began in 1988. Brad Delp, having fulfilled his agreement to finish the recording and tour of "Third Stage" after quitting the band in 1981 after the firing of original guitarist Barry Goudreau, left the band in 1989 to join Goudreau in forming a new band (named RTZ).
