The state of Oklahoma historically had civil townships.On August 5, 1913, voters passed the Oklahoma Township Amendment, also known as State Question 58. [1] This allowed the creation or abolishment of townships on a county by county basis; by the mid-1930s, all Oklahoma counties had voted to abolish them. [2]

Vaugine Township, officially the Township of Vaugine, is a township in Jefferson County, in the U.S. state of Arkansas. [1] It is named for Major Francis Vaugine, a 19th-century landowner. Its population was 41,374 as of the 2020 census. The only municipality is Pine Bluff, the county seat. [2]

This list of Arkansas Townships is based on the U. S. Census (2000) list of places in Arkansas. There are also former townships that have been combined with others or absorbed by urban expansion. Arkansas counties are divided into townships. Each township includes unincorporated space and some may have one or more incorporated towns or cities.
Only one state, Indiana, has township governments covering all its area and population. [2] In other states, some types of municipalities, like villages, remain a part of the township while cities are not. As urban areas expand, a civil township may entirely disappear—see, for example, Mill Creek Township, Hamilton County, Ohio.
