Clare is a city in Webster County, Iowa, United States. The population was 136 at the 2020 census . [ 2 ] Clare was settled circa 1882 by immigrants from Clare County, Ireland .
Further construction occurred in the 1930s along West Fifth Street, following the construction of the Clare City Hall Building. The downtown as a whole prospered until the 1960s, when the freeway bypassed the city. However, despite economic struggles, the downtown area has retained a substantial amount of business activity. Coralville is a suburb of Iowa City and part of the Iowa City Metropolitan Statistical Area. Coralville incorporated as a city in 1873. Heartland Museum is located on the western edge of Clarion on Highway 3. Features include the large agriculture hall with much antique farm equipment, balcony level farm toy displays, and displays showing the history of agriculture. The museum is home to part of Alvina Sellers' Iowa Hat Lady collection of over 6,000 hats.
The city hall's construction in 1936 was a Works Progress Administration project. The east wing, which has been altered from its original appearance, originally housed the city's police and fire departments before they moved to their own buildings. City hall was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991. [1]
