The first documented event, in June 1991, had 3,000 LGBTQ+ people from central Florida going to area theme parks on one day wearing red shirts to make their presence more visible. By 1995, the event had grown to 10,000 gays and lesbians traveling for the gay day at Disney.
The most promoted, for obvious commercial reasons, are the circuit parties. They are hosted and run by local and traveling companies who set up large, elaborate sound systems, light shows, and hire well-known professional DJ's. Tickets to the mainly alcohol-free events can be over $75 with discounts available for multiple party tickets.
The list presents the largest LGBTQ events (pride parades and festivals) worldwide by attendance. Statistics are announced both by the organizers and authorities (police). In this table, the largest single event by city as well as notable international events such as WorldPride or Europride are indicated. Only referenced statistics are accepted.
