Named in 1821, one of several Spanish names given by General Sir Peregrine Maitland, Lt. Governor of Upper Canada (1818-28) and Lt. Governor of Nova Scotia (1828-34). Girl Guides of Canada (GGC; French: Guides du Canada) is the national Guiding association of Canada. Guiding in Canada started on September 7, 1910, and GGC was among the founding members of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) in 1928.
