    That said, while Vidor is a shithole, it's by no means the racist capital of Texas. That would be Santa Fe, where if you aren't an Anglo-Saxon Southern Baptist, you are very, very unwelcome. Last I checked (again, a long time, but not as long as Vidor), the Klan was still a force in local politics there.

    There is a lot of history in that town with stories of Bonnie and Clyde. I just moved to Central Texas from North Texas and had to drive through Hillsboro several times. My ex-roommate told me that a lot of Czechoslovakian families during and after WWII settled in Hillsboro just as many German families settled in Muenster, Texas as well.
