The Columbia Bottom Conservation Area is a 4,256-acre (17.22 km 2) conservation area located on the south side of the Missouri River at its confluence with the Mississippi River. The conservation area, which is located in eastern St. Louis County, Missouri , north of the city of St. Louis , is operated by the Missouri Department of Conservation .
The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) administers hundreds of parcels of land in all counties of the state. Most areas are owned by the department; some are leased by the department; some areas are managed under contract by the department; and some areas are leased to other entities for management.
The school will be a cooperative effort between Columbia Public Schools and the Missouri Department of Conservation. The National Inventory of Dams defines any "major dam" as being 50 feet (15 m) tall with a storage capacity of at least 5,000 acre-feet (6,200,000 m 3 ), or of any height with a storage capacity of 25,000 acre-feet (31,000,000 m 3 ).
