The hotel was built in 1963 by Hilton and was named Mayagüez Hilton. The hotel had a very modern design mimicking that of the Caribe Hilton hotel in San Juan. It had 140 rooms with air-conditioning and an Olympic-sized pool for its guests. The entrance still has the main gates of the Valdes Castle, showcasing its history.
