He coached individuals and teams at the college level and also privately. Dave and his brother, wrestler Mark Schultz, both won gold at the same Olympics (1984).

Heir to the du Pont family fortune, [1] he was a published ornithologist, philatelist, conchologist, and sports enthusiast. Du Pont died in prison while serving a sentence of thirteen-to-thirty years for the murder of Dave Schultz.
