This is a list of islands of Portugal, including islets (Portuguese: ilhéu or ilhote). The islands (Portuguese: Ilha) are listed by region. [1] [2]
The islands extend for more than 600 km (370 mi) in a northwest–southeast direction. The islands form three clusters. Flores and Corvo are to west; Graciosa, Terceira, São Jorge, Pico, and Faial are in the centre; and São Miguel, Santa Maria, and the Formigas islets are to the east. São Miguel is the largest of the islands, and most populous.
The islet is located between 500 metres (1,600 ft) and 1 kilometre (0.62 mi) off the south-central coast of the island of São Miguel, adjacent the municipality, town, and port of Vila Franca do Campo. [2] [4] [5] The semicircular islet measures approximately 5 hectares (12 acres) [5] or 6 hectares (15 acres) [1] in area.
There are bus services between Ponta Delgada and most other towns on the island, but usually only a few times a day. City services and island-wide services are both accessible along "Avenida D. Infante Henriques" and conveniently accessible from major sites in Ponta Delgada. Up to date schedules are available at bus stops and the tourist office.
