Cobscook Bay State Park is a public recreation area occupying 888 acres (359 ha) on the western shore of Cobscook Bay in Washington County, Maine.The park offers a view of dramatically changing tides that on average can rise to 24 feet (7.3 m) high with some reaching as high as 28 feet (8.5 m).

[1] The area surrounding the bay is well-timbered, but as well as forests there are streams, lakes, bogs, marshes and mudflats interspersed by a network of trails. The 87-acre (35 ha) state park occupies a peninsula that separates Cobscook Bay and Broad Cove. The land is named for John Shackford, an American Revolutionary War soldier who once owned the headlands. [3] The park is managed by the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry.
It is located at Mahar Point, the northern point of a narrows separating Dennys Bay from Cobscook Bay in far eastern Maine. The narrows are subject to a reversal of current twice a day, owing to the area's unusually high tides. In addition to viewing this action, the park is also well suited for wildlife viewing. [2]
