The Jack Russell Terrier is a British breed of small terrier.It is principally white-bodied and smooth-, rough- or broken-coated, and can be any colour. It derives from dogs bred and used for fox-hunting in North Devon in the early nineteenth century by a country parson, Jack Russell – for whom the breed is named – and has similar origins to the modern Fox Terrier.
In America, it was first recognised as the Jack Russell Terrier in 1997. The name was changed to its current form in 1999 in the UK and by 2008 all international kennel clubs recognised it under the new name. Russell was elected (as a Jacksonian) to the Twentieth, Twenty-first, and Twenty-second Congresses (March 4, 1827 – March 3, 1833). His reelection bid for the Twenty-third Congress in 1832 was unsuccessful. Russell was elected (as a Whig) to the Twenty-seventh Congress (March 4, 1841 – March 3, 1843). He did not run for reelection in 1842.
