São João da Madeira is a rare example of a municipality with only one civil parish (Portuguese: freguesia). Apart from its small dimensions, São João da Madeira is the second largest city in the district of Aveiro and the largest in the Entre Douro e Vouga subregion.
The Abreu Agency was established in Porto in 1840 by Bernardo Abreu. At the time, emigration from northern Portugal and Galicia to Brazil and Venezuela was significant, and Abreu, a noted businessman in Porto, opened his agency to offer passport and visa services, as well as sales of train tickets to Lisbon and ship passages to and from South America.

The Viscount of São Luiz de Braga died in 1918 and in his honour the theatre was then renamed as the Teatro São Luiz.In 1928 it was remodelled to enable film projection, with the first film to be shown being Metropolis, directed by Fritz Lang and accompanied by a 15-piece band.

Casino da Madeira (Casino of Madeira) is a casino located in Funchal, Madeira, Portugal, which is part of the hotel Pestana Casino Park. [1] It was designed in 1966, but work did not begin until six years later, and it opened in 1976.
São Jorge was created in 1515, and benefitted from the patronage of King Manuel I of Portugal when it was merely a religious parish. These revelations were documented in the archives of the Torre do Tombo , and also included many of the pieces and religious artefacts donated by the King to the first Church of São Jorge.
Fajã da Ovelha is a civil parish in the municipality of Calheta in the Portuguese island of Madeira.The population in 2011 was 895, [1] in an area of 22.16 km². [2] Located about 7 km northwest of the town of Calheta, this parish includes three bands of residential, forested and mountain area; the population is actually concentrated in the area between ocean cliffs and main regional road.
