The newspaper was started in 1895 by Charles Harris as The Montpelier Examiner. The paper merged with the Bear Lake Valley News and became The News-Examiner on Sept. 16, 1937. Miller's traced its history to the New York Racket Store, established in 1889 at 510 Market Street in Chattanooga by brothers Gus and Frank Miller.
