Camp Mackall is an active U.S. Army training facility located in eastern Richmond County and northern Scotland County, North Carolina, south of the town of Southern Pines.The facility is in close proximity to and is a subinstallation of Fort Bragg (home to the XVIII Airborne Corps, the 82nd Airborne Division, and the U.S. Army Special Operations Command headquarters).
In 1990 North Carolina Army and Air National Guard units were mobilized for Operation Desert Shield, followed by Operation Desert Storm in 1991. Personnel from the 145th Airlift Wing were deployed to Germany and other locations.
