  2. Diversity index - Wikipedia

    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diversity_index

A diversity index is a method of measuring how many different types (e.g. species) there are in a dataset (e.g. a community).Diversity indices are statistical representations of different aspects of biodiversity (e.g. richness, evenness, and dominance), which are useful simplifications for comparing different communities or sites.

  3. Measurement of biodiversity - Wikipedia

    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Measurement_of_biodiversity

Species diversity [3] is the relationship between species evenness and species richness. There are many ways to measure biodiversity within a given ecosystem. However, the two most popular are Shannon-Weaver diversity index, [4] commonly referred to as Shannon diversity index, and the other is Simpsons diversity index. [5]

  4. Entropy (information theory) - Wikipedia

    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Entropy_(information_theory)

A diversity index is a quantitative statistical measure of how many different types exist in a dataset, such as species in a community, accounting for ecological richness, evenness, and dominance. Specifically, Shannon entropy is the logarithm of 1 D, the true diversity index with parameter equal to 1. The Shannon index is related to the ...

  5. Species evenness - Wikipedia

    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Species_evenness

The Shannon index is the most commonly used way to quantitatively determine species diversity, H, as modeled by the following equation: = = ⁡ The Shannon index factors in both species evenness and species richness, as represented by the variables p i and s, respectively. The lowest possible value of H is zero, and the higher a community’s H ...

Species diversity [183] is the relationship between species evenness and species richness. There are many ways to measure biodiversity within a given ecosystem. However, the two most popular are Shannon-Weaver diversity index, [184] commonly referred to as Shannon diversity index, and the other is Simpsons diversity index. [185]

  7. Rényi entropy - Wikipedia

    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rényi_entropy

The Rényi entropy is important in ecology and statistics as index of diversity. The Rényi entropy is also important in quantum information , where it can be used as a measure of entanglement . In the Heisenberg XY spin chain model, the Rényi entropy as a function of α can be calculated explicitly because it is an automorphic function with ...

  9. Talk:Shannon index - Wikipedia

Nice analogy. But what else is the Shannon index used for Michael? I have only seen it used for species diversity measure. Stray 23:40, 1 June 2007 (UTC) The Shannon index seems identical to information entropy, which is used by many branches of math and engineering. I think Michael's point is that the article needs to say this.
