Soulard (/ ˈ s u l ɑːr d / SOO-lard) is a historic neighborhood in St. Louis, Missouri. It is the home of Soulard Farmers Market , the oldest farmers' market west of the Mississippi River . Soulard is one of ten certified local historic districts in the city of St. Louis.
The neighborhood was named after the Bevo Mill, a distinctive restaurant with a windmill and beer hall at Gravois and Morganford roads. The restaurant was opened by August Busch Sr. in 1917 who wished to recreate a European beer garden where drinks would be served in an outdoor atmosphere of music and dancing, like a country club in the City.
Alain Ducasse's restaurants, cooking schools, cookbooks, and consulting activities had revenues of $15.9 million in 2002. [11] Ducasse has also opened a cooking school for the general public in Paris and another for chefs (ADF), which also works for the European Space Agency to develop astronaut meals to be taken into space.

The restaurant was founded by Anne "Annette" Boutiaut (1851–1931), who married Victor Poulard on 14 January 1873 and founded the Hostellerie de la Tête d'Or, finding that customers came and went quickly with the tide, giving them the idea of cooking giant omelettes in a wooden hearth to make them stay.
It was formed as a "new" neighborhood, legally distinct from the larger Soulard district, through the efforts of the city of St. Louis, Missouri and Ralston Purina, (now the Nestlé Purina Petcare Company) which has its world headquarters in LaSalle Park. LaSalle Park contains a mixture of Victorian and Federalist architecture.

Located at 812 Soulard Street in the Soulard neighborhood, it is the oldest Lutheran church of the contiguous United States west of the Mississippi River. [2] [3] Its architectural style is Gothic revival. [4] The church was founded in 1839 by German Lutheran immigrants from Saxony who had arrived in the United States in 1838.
