People's University of Bangladesh was established on 14 May 1996 as a private university under the Private University Act 1992. [1] The university has two own campuses, one at Mohammadpur and the other one located at Sristighar, Shibpur, Narsingdi.
On 26 July 2016, [3] the government of Bangladesh enacted a regulation in the National Assembly to set up the university on a 50-acre site adjoining to Bangabandhu Hi-Tech Park in Kaliakair, Gazipur District. [4] Instruction began with the 2018–2019 academic year, for which 100 students were offered admission. [5]
Every year, around 700 students enroll in undergraduate programs to study engineering and architecture. In the undergraduate admission test, only about the top 5% of students, out of approximately 14,000 selected candidates, can get admitted. There are around 300 or more teachers.
