The Orlando mayor is officially a nonpartisan election. The current mayor is Buddy Dyer , who was first elected in a special election in February 2003 . Dyer was elected to his first full term in 2004 , and after a brief suspension for six weeks in 2005, has subsequently been re-elected in 2008 , 2012 , 2015 , 2019 , and 2023 .
A new club record was set in January 2018 when Orlando paid $3,000,000 to Paraguayan club Cerro Porteño for the transfer of teenager Josué Colmán. Colmán's fee stood as a record for four years until Orlando, under new ownership by the Wilf family, spent $9,000,000 on 21-year-old Uruguay international Facundo Torres.

James LeRoy Giles (June 16, 1863 – May 3, 1946) was the twenty-second, twenty-fourth, and twenty-sixth Mayor of Orlando, serving non-consecutively from 1916 to 1920, 1924 to 1926, and 1929 to 1932. He also served as an alternate delegate to the Democratic National Convention from Florida in the 1912 United States Presidential Election .
