During the American Civil War, Breaux Bridge was the site of an engagement known as the "Battle of Breaux Bridge." According to Andrew B. Booth’s 1920 "Index to Battles, Campaigns, Engagements, Etc., Fought Within the Limits of the State of Louisiana, 1861–1865," military actions took place at Breaux Bridge on April 17 and April 21, 1863.
