The Great Eddy Covered Bridge, also called the Big Eddy Covered Bridge or Waitsfield Covered Bridge, [2] is a wooden covered bridge that crosses the Mad River in Waitsfield, Vermont on Bridge Street. Built in 1833, it is one of Vermont's oldest covered bridges. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974. [1]

The property was probably established as a farm in the 1820s by Daniel Thayer, an early settler of Waitsfield who also established mills on the nearby Mad River. Thayer left Waitsfield in 1853, and the property came into the hands of Orvis Jones. The property remained in the Jones family until 1938, when it was acquired by the Pestles.
