One-third of Runnymede Borough Council in Surrey, England, is elected each year, followed by one year where there is an election to Surrey County Council instead. The council is divided up into 14 wards , electing 41 councillors , since the last boundary changes in 2019.
Since its first election in 1973, the council has been under Conservative control, apart from a short period between 1996 and 1998 when it was under no overall control. In the previous election in 2021, the Conservative Party retained control of the council, winning 9 out of 13 seats and holding their majority, albeit reduced to 4.
Following the 2024 election a coalition of Labour, Liberal Democrats, Greens and independent councillors formed to run the council. [11] [12] The first elections to the council were held in 1973, initially operating as a shadow authority alongside the outgoing authorities until the new arrangements came into effect on 1 April 1974.
