The Yosemite Park Company had built the Yosemite Lodge and Yosemite Village had its own group of merchants.
Yosemite Park and Curry Company began operating the camp in 1926. The Vogelsang High Sierra Camp is located a hiking distance of 7.6 miles (12.2 km) north by the Fletcher Creek trail, or a hiking distance of 8.4 miles (13.5 km) north by the Fletcher Creek trail and then over Vogelsang Pass.
Little Yosemite Valley is a smaller glacial valley upstream in the Merced River drainage from the Yosemite Valley in Yosemite National Park. The Merced River meanders through the 3.5 mi (5.6 km) [ 1 ] long flat valley, draining out over Nevada Fall and Vernal Fall before emptying into the main Yosemite Valley.
The upper stretch of the Merced River valley below the park, which the highway follows, is designated as Wild and Scenic River Area. The area separates Sierra National Forest (south) and Stanislaus National Forest (north). Inside Yosemite, state routes are federally maintained and are not included in the state route logs.
