Ellsworth is a city in and the county seat of Ellsworth County, Kansas, United States. [1] As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 3,066. [4] Known as a cow town in the 1870s, when the Kansas Pacific Railroad operated a stockyard here for shipping cattle to eastern markets, in the 21st century, it serves as the trading center of the rural county.
Ellsworth County is divided into nineteen townships. The city of Ellsworth is considered governmentally independent and is excluded from the census figures for the townships. Ellsworth Township covers an area of 34.22 square miles (88.6 km 2) and contains two incorporated settlements: Ellsworth (the county seat) and Kanopolis. According to the USGS, it contains one cemetery, Memorial. The streams of East Oak Creek, East Spring Creek, Oak Creek, Oxide Creek, Spring Creek and West Oak Creek run through this township.
Ellsworth City Hall stands on a hill north of United States Route 1, overlooking the city's central business district, separated from it by a parking lot.It is a two-story brick building, with a horizontal gable-roofed main block, which is flanked by hip-roofed perpendicular wings, and which has a center projecting gable-roof entry section.
The house is located 0.25 miles (0.40 km) south of Ellsworth, across Smoky Hill River, off what was State Highway K-45 in 1974. Its address is now 1126 Highway 14, Ellsworth, KS 67439. [3] The city of Ellsworth has apparently annexed land to its south, extending to the house's property and jumping over it.
