Robert Emmet Barron (born November 19, 1959) is an American prelate of the Catholic Church who has served as bishop of the Diocese of Winona–Rochester since 2022. [11] He is the founder of the Catholic ministerial organization Word on Fire, and was the host of Catholicism, a documentary TV series about Catholicism that aired on PBS.
As of 2023, the current bishop of Winona–Rochester is Robert Barron, formerly an auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. He was appointed by Pope Francis in 2022. In November 2022, Barron announced that the diocese was moving its headquarters from Winona to Rochester and was building a new pastoral center there.
Located adjacent to Saint Mary's University of Minnesota, IHM has provided college-level seminary training since 1948. Seminarians come primary from dioceses in the Midwestern United States to live at IHM and take classes from Saint Mary's. [1] As of 2024, Bishop Robert E. Barron is the president of the IHM advisory board.

Minnesota's first bishop, the Rt. Rev. Joseph Cretin, had celebrated the first recorded Mass in town the previous year and sent the Rev. Thomas Murray to organize the parish. St. Thomas parish had two church buildings in its history, the second of which was completed in the early 1870s.
