John Alexander Robinson (July 25, 1935 – November 11, 2024) was an American football coach best known for his two stints as head coach of the University of Southern California (USC) football team (1976–1982, 1993–1997) and for his tenure as head coach of the NFL's Los Angeles Rams (1983–1991).
Robinson served as the head football coach at Syracuse University from 2005 to 2008. He has served as an assistant coach with several other college football programs and for three teams in the National Football League (NFL): the New York Jets from 1990 to 1994, the Denver Broncos from 1995 to 2000, and the Kansas City Chiefs from 2001 to 2003.
The Trojans defeated Notre Dame 17-13, giving the portly Robinson a 67-14-2 record at USC. At a news conference earlier that week, Robinson had been asked if he would consider coaching in the NFL.
In 1998 Robinson returned to the New York Giants, where he spent most of his playing career. As the Giants wide receiver coach for six seasons, he steered that unit to the most successful seasons in club history.
