The Boys placed second at the Derby High School Drill Meet, in Wichita, Kansas. The KS71st graduated it first cadets in 1973. The last KS71ST cadets were graduated in May 1975. Due to the drawdown of United States Air Force forces after Vietnam, and the closure of Forbes Air Force Base, in Topeka, Kansas the unit was discontinued.
