State Route 180 (SR 180) is a 28.359-mile-long (45.639 km) state highway that serves as a west-to-east highway in Baldwin County, and travels between the cities of Fort Morgan and Orange Beach. It, along with State Route 182, is one of two state routes in the southern part of the county between the Intracoastal Waterway and the Gulf of Mexico.
Fort Morgan is a historic masonry pentagonal bastion fort at the mouth of Mobile Bay, Alabama, United States. Named for American Revolutionary War hero Daniel Morgan , it was built on the site of the earlier Fort Bowyer , an earthen and stockade-type fortification involved in the final land battles of the War of 1812 .
In 1865, Union troops sailed from Dauphin Island, Alabama to Marlow Ferry and then marched on to link up with other Union troops. The combined forces, the Union XIII and XVI, marched north and attacked Confederate troops defending Spanish Fort, Alabama and Fort Blakeley. Union troops constructed a pontoon bridge to cross the river. [1]
State Route 193 runs north. The southern terminus of SR 193 is located at the western terminus of the Fort Morgan ferry in eastern Dauphin Island. From this point, the route travels in a westerly direction before turning to the north off the island across the Gordon Persons Bridge spanning the Mississippi Sound.

The siege of Fort Morgan occurred during the American Civil War, as part of the battle for Mobile Bay, in the Confederate state of Alabama during August 1864. Union ground forces led by General Gordon Granger conducted a short siege of the Confederate garrison at the mouth of Mobile Bay under the command of General Richard L. Page.
