Roy is an Irish animated children's television series which was broadcast by TRTÉ in Ireland, CBBC in the United Kingdom and ABC3 in Australia. It aired from 1 July 2009 to 1 April 2015. [1] The show centres on the titular character Roy O'Brien. He is portrayed as the 11-year-old animated son of a live-action family.
The content of the programme included music, visits from public figures, competitions, filmed items, and cartoons. There was also coverage of news and current issues relevant to children. A popular aspect of the series was an arts and crafts "Make and Do" segment where presenter Mary FitzGerald demonstrated simple cooking and crafts.
The show was presented by Bosco, a small, red-haired puppet, supposedly a five-year-old child with bright red cheeks and a really squeaky voice. Bosco and the other presenters usually spoke English, but to help young children learn Irish, Bosco often peppered English speech with Irish phrases, much like the way Dora the Explorer often speaks Spanish.
