The area codes are allocated within the North American Numbering Plan (NANP). The two original area codes for Missouri in 1947 were 314 and 816. Area code 417 was split off from 816 in 1950, and the other area codes followed more than 40 years later, due to the proliferation of Cellular Phones and Pagers.

In 1956, Missouri Methodist Hospital purchased Mercy Hospital and converted it into a 35-bed annex in 1957 to handle their increased patient volume. [ 4 ] [ 5 ] [ 6 ] The 1950s also saw the construction of Carder Hall, a dormitory for student nurses at Missouri Methodist Hospital, named in honor of Dr. Carder, the hospital's head at the time.

Royal is an unincorporated community in northeastern Phelps County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. [1] The community is on Missouri Route B , approximately eight miles north of St. James . [ 2 ]
