I was w/Verizon for many years & just recently left when they killed text online. I'm now w/T-Mobile and use Digits to do text online and it works fine. The carrier switch was easy at a T-Mobile store where they also helped set up Digits on my phone and I completed it on my computer later.

Hello, ex-Verizon employee here. The text does look similiar to the one used by the support representatives on the phone to send you specific information. My advice for you would still be to give Verizon a call and check with them, especially if you don't remember requesting such a link.

at first they blamed it on google servers. I have been using email to text with Verizon for a long time and stopped receiving texts from one email but seems to work with other emails. I assumed they are putting filters on that are blacklisting some emails. Sidenote, I am having the same problem with T-Mobile.
