NAVY GRAY UNIFORMS - gray uniforms in the same style as khaki were first introduced on 16 April 1943 as an officers uniform. On 3 June 1943 the uniform was extended to include Chief Petty Officers. On 31 March 1944 cooks and stewards were permitted to wear the gray uniform. The Navy abolished use of "grays" on 15 October 1949.
UNIFORMS. Branch colors - cap piping color reference. Here is a basic reference for the various colored piping used on WW2 and earlier overseas hats. I can't take credit for this. USMC uniforms are pretty standardized throughout the Corps, both Alphas and Blues. Dress uniforms of an Army infantry officer, doctor, and bomber pilot from 2LT to General are the same uniform with different insignia. My advice would be to learn the insignia and badges so you can tailor a blank uniform to the scenario.
A size 42 US service or dress coat (tunic) made in ww2 is a size 42 coat today. That is the measurement, plain and simple. If referring to medium or large for example, there is a range within those terms. In the Military, a dress or service uniform is intended to be fairly form fit, and this was especially true during the ww2 era.
8) Blue Outdoor Uniform. During the spring of 1940, the Department of the Army decided to improve the outmoded design and color for the female nurse service uniform. According to opinion research among army nurses, 98% of them preferred a bluish uniform. Production of the new attire began in 1941.

Posted January 26, 2021. The regulations called for the patch of the soldier's current unit of assignment to be worn on the left sleeve approximately 1/2 down from the shoulder seam. At the end of WWII and to this day, the soldier is entitled to wear the patch of the unit to which he was assigned while in a combat zone.
