The River Tame is a river in the West Midlands of England, and one of the principal tributaries of the River Trent. [4] The Tame is about 95 km (59 mi) long from the source at Oldbury to its confluence with the Trent near Alrewas, [1] but the main river length of the entire catchment, i.e. the Tame and its main tributaries, is about 285 km (177 mi).
At Drakelow upstream of Burton the flow increases nearly three-fold to 36.1 m 3 /s (1,270 cu ft/s), due to the additional inflow from the largest tributary the Tame. At Colwick near Nottingham, the average flow rises to 83.8 m 3 /s (2,960 cu ft/s), due to the combined inputs of the other major tributaries namely the Dove, Derwent and Soar.
The springs at Seven Springs flow throughout the year, while those at Thames Head are seasonal (a winterbourne). With a length of 215 mi (346 km), [20] the Thames is the longest river entirely in England. (The longest river in the United Kingdom, the Severn, flows partly in Wales.)
