Blairsville is a city and the county seat of Union County, on the northern border of Georgia, United States. [4] It was founded near the Nottely River, which was dammed in 1942 as part of the Tennessee Valley Authority project, forming Lake Nottely.
Union County was originally a core part of the homeland of the native Cherokee tribe. Mountainous and formerly one of the most remote and inaccessible parts of Georgia, the area became the object of desire for white settlers with the discovery of gold in the 1820s.

The Old Union County Courthouse in Blairsville, Georgia was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. [1] It was designed by architects Golucke & Stewart. It has a hipped roof with intersecting gables. An original clock tower is gone, as are some decorative turrets.
