Station for Two (Russian: Вокзал для двоих, romanized: Vokzal dlya dvoikh) is a 1983 Soviet romantic comedy directed by Eldar Ryazanov. The film became the Soviet box office leader of 1983 with a total of 35.8 million ticket sales. It was entered into the 1983 Cannes Film Festival. [1]
The film culminates at the home of Raya, a former battalion nurse who initially doesn’t recognize them. Upon hearing of Matveev’s death, she gathers her strength to sing their cherished song, honoring the memory of the "unbreakable" 10th Airborne Battalion of the 1st Belorussian Front.

Gaidai was born on 30 January 1923 in Svobodny, Amur Oblast, [2] where he is commemorated by a statue. His father Iov Isidorovich Gaidai came from a Ukrainian family of serfs of the Poltava Governorate. At the age of 22 he was sentenced to several years of katorga for revolutionary activity and sent to the Far East to work at the railway. [2]
The story has been adapted as a television series four times by the BBC. The first of these, in 1951, was in 8 episodes of 30 minutes each. A second adaptation was then produced, which re-used some of the film from the original series but also contained new material with slight cast changes. This had 4 episodes of 60 minutes each.
The railway was chosen because of the collection of period rolling stock, Sharpthorne Tunnel, which was seen as ideal for the tunnel scene, and the fact that the Old Gentleman in the story commutes daily to London (with the 2000 setting being nearer London that the 1970 film set in Yorkshire).
