Margaretta Mary Winifred Scott [1] (13 February 1912 – 15 April 2005) was an English stage, screen and television actress whose career spanned over seventy years. [2] She is best remembered for playing the eccentric widow Mrs. Pumphrey in the BBC television series All Creatures Great and Small (1978–1990).
She was part of the last group to be executed, which also included Mary Eastey, Martha Corey, Ann Pudeator, Samuel Wardwell, Mary Parker, Alice Parker, and Wilmot Redd. [1] She was the only accused person from Rowley to be executed. As a lower-class, long-term widow, having lost several children in infancy, she was a prototypical witch candidate.
Portrayed by Margaretta Scott, Lady Southwold's sister, Lady Katherine "Kate" Castleton (died 1921), was to have presented Elizabeth to King Edward VII at a Londonderry House ball in 1905.
