The present All Saints Church is a small parish church in the Perpendicular style probably dating to the mid-14th century but much restored in the 19th century. The church consists of a chancel 20 ft. by 13 ft. 6 in., a north vestry 14 ft. by 7 ft., the nave 35 ft. by 16 ft. 6 in., and the south porch 8 ft. 6 in. by 8 ft. [4] [5]
There are three large war memorials inside the church. The World War One marble tablet memorial, lists 48 men from Stoke Poges who died. [46] The memorial was executed by Sir Ernest George and Mr Basil Gotto, a sculptor. [47] It is located in the chancel. The World War Two stained glass window memorial lists 8 men from Stoke Poges who died.
The church and convent were heavily damaged during World War II. Father Daniel Castrillo, the last Augustinian priest of the parish, had the church reinforced with concrete, made other restorations and rebuilt the convent. In the 1980s, the nave and transept of the church were torn down to make the more spacious church seen today. [2]
Leigh was anciently a chapelry of Ashton Keynes church. Baptisms and marriages took place at Leigh but there was no right of burial until 1865. Although Leigh became a separate civil parish in 1884, for church purposes the benefice continued as 'Ashton Keynes with Leigh'; [5] in 1978 Leigh was still described as a chapelry. [6]
The churchyard contains a Commonwealth war grave of a Royal Engineers soldier of World War I. [5] Within the church is a memorial to Admiral of the Fleet Sir Dudley Pound, who died in World War II having been First Sea Lord of the Admiralty at its outbreak.
