Cutaneous larva migrans (abbreviated CLM) is a skin disease in humans, caused by the larvae of various nematode parasites of the hookworm family (Ancylostomatidae). The parasites live in the intestines of dogs, cats, and wild animals; they should not be confused with other members of the hookworm family for which humans are definitive hosts, namely Ancylostoma duodenale and Necator americanus.
Gnathostoma spinigerum is a parasitic nematode that causes gnathostomiasis in humans, also known as its clinical manifestations are creeping eruption, larva migrans, Yangtze edema, Choko-Fuschu Tua chid and wandering swelling. [citation needed] Gnathostomiasis in animals can be serious, and even fatal.
Mansonella streptocerca can manifest on the skin via pruritus, papular eruptions and pigmentation changes. Mansonella ozzardi can cause symptoms that include arthralgias, headaches, fever, pulmonary symptoms, adenopathy, hepatomegaly, and pruritus. [1] Eosinophilia is often prominent but do not occur in all cases of Mansonelliasis.
Gnathostomiasis infection is rare because the parasite must be digested when it has reached its third larvae stage, providing only a short time in which the parasite can infect humans. It is uncommon for the larvae to penetrate the skin of individuals exposed to contaminated food or water without ingestion. [15]
Strongyloidiasis is a human parasitic disease caused by the nematode called Strongyloides stercoralis, ... skin, and digestive symptoms of reinfection (when larvae ...
Signs and symptoms of hookworm infection vary by host and hookworm species. In humans, the first sign of infection is itching and skin rash. Humans with light infections may show no symptoms, but humans with heavy infections may have abdominal pain, diarrhea, loss of appetite, weight loss, fatigue and anemia.
Visceral larva migrans (VLM) is a condition in humans caused by the migratory larvae of certain nematodes, humans being a dead-end host, and was first reported in 1952. [1] Nematodes causing such zoonotic infections are Baylisascaris procyonis, [2] Toxocara canis, [3] Toxocara cati, [3] and Ascaris suum. [4]
The signs and symptoms of helminthiasis depend on a number of factors including: the site of the infestation within the body; the type of worm involved; the number of worms and their volume; the type of damage the infesting worms cause; and, the immunological response of the body. Where the burden of parasites in the body is light, there may be ...
