Napier City Council (Māori: Te Kaunihera o Ahuriri) is the territorial authority of Napier, a city in the Hawke's Bay region of New Zealand's North Island.. The council covers the urban and suburban areas of the city, including Central Napier, Bay View, Onekawa, Ahuriri, Taradale, and Meeanee, amongst others.
It is jointly owned by the government, Napier City Council, and Hastings District Council, and is operated by Hawke's Bay Airport Ltd. The airport is located in the Napier suburb of Westshore. Air New Zealand provides frequent direct flights to and from Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch. Sunair serves Tauranga, Hamilton, Gisborne and Wairoa.
Results broken down to the council level showed that only Hastings district electors favoured amalgamation (52% in favour). Napier (84% opposed), Wairoa District (88% opposed) and Central Hawke's Bay (58%) were opposed. Only four votes were returned from Rangitikei (two each way); no votes were returned from Taupo district. [32]
