Peckville is a village in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, United States, roughly 8 miles (13 km) northwest of Scranton. The governing borough of Peckville is Blakely. [1] Peckville was named for Samuel Peck, who moved to northeastern Pennsylvania from Massachusetts in 1831, and built a saw and grist mill at the site of the current village.
Blakely Township was formed in 1818 from portions of old Providence Township and recently formed Greenfield Township, and named after War of 1812 naval hero Johnston Blakely, who captained the sloop Wasp in battle against the British Cruizer-class brig-sloop Avon in 1814. [4]
The school district serves: the boroughs of Archbald, Blakely, Jessup, the Peckville section of Blakely borough, and the Eynon section of Archbald borough, which are suburbs of Scranton. Valley View School District encompasses approximately 27 square miles (70 km 2). According to 2004 local census data, it served a resident population of 17,715.
