Ratón Pass is a 7,834 ft (2,388 m) elevation mountain pass on the Colorado–New Mexico border in the western United States. It is located on the eastern side of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains between Trinidad, Colorado and Raton, New Mexico , approximately 180 miles (290 km) northeast of Santa Fe .
The country has won the men's race 15 times and the women's race on 12 occasions. The American men were dominant historically, accruing eight straight wins from 1920 to 1956, but have also logged numerous disqualifications (chiefly due to baton pass failures), including five straight from 2008 to 2024 (also in 1912, 1960, and 1988).
